The Antwerp Camerata was formed in 2015. It is one of the newest chamber orchestra’s in Belgium. The orchestra is led by artistic director and chief conductor Dimitris Spouras.
Although the orchestra doesn’t exist for a long time it has managed to leave a solid impression. Because of this they were able to work with renowned soloists such as Eliane Rodrigues, Luc Tooten, Nadja Nevolovitsch, Wilfried Van den Brande and Hendrickje van Kerckhove.
On the festival Klara in deSingel at the beginning of 2016 the Antwerp Camerata brought a program with classical concerto’s of Mozart. Besides that the orchestra likes to explore the lesser known and played repertoire, and with works of composers like Grieg, Holst, Janáček en Dvořák the orchestra took a leap in the romantical repertoire. With this the orchestra made their first international debut as closure of Hulst Cultureel season 2016/2017 in the Netherlands. Also in 2017 they count on a collaboration with young soloists and guitarist Kristina Varlid, flutist Tora Rostvik and pianist Eliane Rodrigues.
The Antwerp Camerata is a orchestra that is current, energetic and versatile, but also with steady roots in the classical tradition. The orchestra distinguishes itself with energetic dedication to the music of the past, but also engages interactions with composers who are currently active. This is making our story as classical trained musicians both vibrant and actual.
For the future the Antwerp Camerata keeps devoting itself to provide both new and old generations of music lovers with classical music.
